イラストと一緒に命令文
英語の命令文は2種類あります。肯定の命令文と否定の命令文です。
ここではイラスト付きの命令文を説明したいので用法と否定の命令文の説明を端折ります。
私たちは大人になるまでいろんなものに触れて見てきているのでなんとなく、下記のような命令文の例文を訳せるのではないでしょうか？しかし、認知言語学論に基づいてみると（ちょっと堅苦しいが）、中高の生徒（留学経験なし）にとって見ると、英語で命令文の形を見ても単語の羅列でしかないのです。もちろん、留学経験や学習によって違いますが。
ex. Be quiet！ （静かにして）
Please keep off the grass.(芝生に入らないでください。）

中高の生徒に命令文を訳しやすくさせるには、標識を使うと9割がわかります！
例えば2番目のPlease keep off the grassをイラスト付きで載せてあげます。
（このイラストは少し単語が長かったので正解すると嬉しい顔をしている生徒もいました。）

では最後に迫力あるイラストを。

「~通り」もローマ字読みの「Tori」「Dori」に「Ave.」(abbrev.Avenue)を追記
美術館も「Art Museum」に表記することとなったようです。
先月の8月も、「Kokkaiseimon」(国会正門）から「The National Diet Main Gate」
「Gaimusho」(外務省)から「Min. of Foreign Affairs」に改められることを発表しました。
今年の7月初めて、外国人旅行者が100万人を達成したことを政府は発表しました。
一時は福島の放射線の問題、地震の影響で減少していました。。
記事によるとこの調子でいけば、年間1000万人を達成することが可能かもとのことです。円安と格安航空により、増加してのではないかと思います。
（確かに、今年の夏に京都を訪れた際、いつも以上に外国旅行者を多く見かけました。）
7月より、もっと外国人旅行者が増えて日本の経済が活性化されることを期待しています。

Rape is a tool of war. It is an act of aggression and a crime against humanity. It is inflicted intentionally to destroy the women, families and communities. It ruins lives and fuels conflict. If we government can’t act, the United Nation Security Council must step in to provide leadership and assistantance. For these crimes happen not because they’re inherent to war, but because global climate allows it. There is no greater power in the world that can stand by them. That young Syrian rape victim is here because you represent her. That 5 year old child in the Congo must count because you represent her. And in her eyes, if the attackers get away from this crime, it is because you have allowed it. You set the bar. If United Nation Security Council sets rape and sexual violence in conflict as priority, it will become one and progress will be made. Thank you.

英語教員のためのセミナーはとても充実して、特に通訳メソッド法は充実した１日になりました。
担当の講師はCaroline KennedyとAngelina Jolieの演説が割と聞きやすいとおっしゃってたので、トライしてみました。確かに割と聞きやすく、砕けてないので理解もしやすいです。
でも、Caroline Kennedyの約6分間の演説はなかなかの手応えなので…途中まで英語訳のサンプルを載せます。
この演説は2012年の民主党全国大会で演説されたものです。

People enjoy relaxing with a cup of coffee.Many cafes are also drawing customers with a wide range of special themes, such as wireless cafes, Manga cafes and Maid cafes.“Cafe” means “Kitsa” inJapanese,which also means to drink a cup of tea or coffee. The origins of "Kitsa" can be traced back to Ueno in 1888. In 2008, monument was erected in Ueno to celebrate the origin of "Kitsa".
Japan imports 450 thousand tons of coffee beans every year from around the world, for example Brazil, Ethiopia , Chile and so forth. It’s also the fourth largest consumer of coffee after America, Brazil and Germany. Can You believe that Japanese drink morevarieties of coffee than Italians do?
Many Japanese cafes offer a morning set. Basically, it’s a form of breakfast served in the early morning. We have coffee and toast as well as salad and baguette. Some people go to cafes to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Youneed time for yourself.Cafe is a place you can sip coffee and read a newspaper while relaxing.To help customers make the most of their time at the cafe, many cafes offer newspapers and magazines free of charge so that customers can read business news or the sport pages.Other people come to study French, English and so on. I think people choose to study at the coffee because they can concentrate on studies and work without being interrupted by noise. They can use their time here doing exactly what they want to do. In addition, some people go to a cafe near their office to start a meeting. Others do similar things all the time.
Some people go to cafes to be productive while others go to entertain or enjoy themselves. Some cafes serve Inter net that you can easily get to the office ,but what's important is the space and services provided. There are cafes, such as the Internet cafe that provide access to laptop computers and the internet and there are other cafes that given women a space to relax and take it easy. That is to say, that there are cafes for variety of interests.
Take for example, the Manga cafe where many thousands of comics. Customers select something to read just like in a library, but they can read manga while sipping on coffee, juice, tea and so on. Manga cafes are ideal for those who really like manga ,but have a limited amount of space at home. It is difficult for manga fans to store a large collection, so they use Manga cafes as a sort of private library. Some Manga cafes even offer Manga laboratories that provides a space for the customer to draw and use professional tools, computers with softwares where they can make their own manga. It's kind of like a VIP room for manga lovers.

'Welcome home Master’ is a phrase you often hear when you enter a Maid cafe. Staff appear in maid costumes and offer drinks and something to eat to the customers. It is a fantasy space mainly for men.
Such customers are enjoying an escape from their everyday routine. Maid cafe had advanced in Akihabara was spread around Tokyo,and then The area " Akihabara" was the home of "Otaku culture".

気晴らしや楽しむために行く人もいれば、生産的なカフェに行く人もいます。オフェイスにつながりやすいようにインターネットを提供しているカフェもあるが、重要なのは、提供されるスペースと場所です。ラップトップパソコンやインターネットにつながるインターネットカフェがあったり、女性に使いやすく、リラックスできる場所があるカフェもあります。つまり、いろんな嗜好があるカフェなのです。例えば、たくさんのコミックを置いている漫画カフェがあります。お客さんは図書館のように読みたいものを選びます。しかし、図書館と違い、コーヒー、ジュース、紅茶などを啜りながらマンガを読むことができます。家には限られたスペースしかない、漫画を好きな人にとって漫画カフェは理想です。漫画ファンにとってたくさんのコミックを収納することは難しいので、漫画カフェをプライベートライブラリーの一種として使っています。お客さんがプロの道具、ソフトウェアーが入ったパソコンを使って自分の漫画を描くことができる漫画ラボのあるカフェもあります。これは漫画愛好家にとってVIPルームのようです。
「ご主人さま、いらっしゃいませ」は人々がメイドカフェに入った時、しばしばよく聞くフレーズです。スタッフはメイドコスチュームを着てあらわれ、お客さんに食べ物と飲み物を提供します。男性にとってファンタジーな場所です。お客さんは毎日の日常から抜け出して楽しみます。秋葉原で発祥したメイドカフェは東京に広がって、秋葉原は”オタクの文化”の元祖となりました。

I love pancakes! They are very simple to make.The main ingredients are flour, baking powder, milk, eggs and sugar.( Even, the pancake mix set is sold at the supermaket.)Mix it all together and briskly whisk and cook in a frying pan. Finally, you're done when they are slightly burnt.You can eat them with honey, butter, maple syrup, chocolate, and jam. I'm fond of them with honey and butter.
Pancakes are eaten as a standard breakfast in Hawaii. That is way, the pancake shops in Hawaii are open at about 7 a.m.I think Hawaiian pancakes have been becoming popular for the past 2 years in Japan, especially among the young women. They are fascinated with the known-shop"Eggs'n Things" and " Cafe Kaila"
I was surprised with the legend of " Eggs'n Things" in Harajuku.I hear from my friends, it seems that you must wait in a queue as long as about two hours. Actually, some of my friends said to me that They was tired to wait a line for two and an half hours . One of the friends droped in a convienence store to kill a time; looking over the magazine, grabbing a snack and some drink. I wouldn't wait for more than an hour, even though I'm in the mood for eating the pancake in the day, but I wish to eat their pancakes someday. The famous pancake is the following picture.

The pancake is almost made from a local food and organic food in Hawaii. The shop in Japan is only in Omotesando. The character of the pancake is a lot of fresh fruits that put on the pancake. The name "pancakes" varies from country to country, for example, it is called " hot cakes " in England and Japan, while called " flannel cakes" in a part of middle north of America, " batter cakes" in Sourth America ,and " flap jacks " in north-east of Amrica. French have fancy "crepes " ,which are slightly burned with the same ingredients except for the barking powder.They were named crepes because the mark of burn looks likeTchirimen.
Have you ever heard Pancake's Day? It is on Thursday before the fasting time called Lent. The next opportunity to feast wouldn't be until Easter, so Western people feast before fasting time. The day is called Shrove Thursday, also It is called Fat Thursday in America. On pancake day in England, pancake race is held in each village and town. Firstly, the participants put on an apron to take part in the competiton, and they are holding a frying pan. They race through the street tossing a pancake into the air ,and cathching it in a frying pan while they run. The pancake race is said to have originated from a housewife in Olney. She forgot to go to church because she was too busy cooking. She hurriedly raced out of her house to the church while carrying a frying pan and pancake. What I knew about pancake is actually something deeper.

”パンケーキの日”を今までに聞いたことある？”パンケーキの日”はレントと呼ばれる断食期に入る前の火曜日です。次のごちそうの機会はイースターまで食べることができないのです。だから、西洋の人々は断食期に入る前に十分にごちそうをいただくのです。”パンケーキの日”は告解の火曜日と呼ばれている。またアメリカではFat Thursdayと呼ばれている。イングランドのパンケーキの日には、各町村でパンケーキレースが開かれる。まず、競技に参加するために参加者はエプロンを着て、フライパンを持ちます。参加者は走りながら、空中にパンケーキを投げ、フライパンでキャッチをして競争します。パンケーキレースはオルネイのある主婦から始まったと言われています。彼女は料理に夢中になり、教会に行くことを忘れました。彼女はフライパンを持ちながら、慌てて、家から飛び出し教会に向かって疾走していました。私がパンケーキについて知ったことは、実際には深い意味があるということです。
The blue headdress "Girl With A Pearl Earring"
I'm going to talk about Johannes Vermeer's "Girl With A Pearl Earring" in Mauritshuis gallery in the Hague.I'm fascinated with the three harmonies that the girl turns toward us against the darkness, wears the rich lapis-lazuri blue of exotic headdress and wears the pearl hanging from her ear.
It is said that we don't know who the girl is and Why Vermeer painted her. A curator in Mauritshuis gallery conveyed through TV that girl with a pearl earring didn't exist actually,the painting is a Tronie which means fancy. In the golden ages of the Netherlands, these kinds of drawings was called Tronie, an independent genre of figure paintings, which was definitely apart from a portrait paintings. Tronie means a study for the head in Dutch, which the works that are drawn from a breast to the head for someone unspecified. It is a study to spectacularly draw expressions and characters that persons have.
The girl had her eyes opened large, but she was transitory and blank. Her mouth was open a little. I think the two studies express the girl's purity.The color of her exotic headdress also expresses the girl's purity. Blue is seen as a symbol of purity. Another color wouldn't allow the girl's purity to be conveyed as easily. For example,if the girl's headdress was painted in a red color, the works would convey her enthusiasm.If the girl's headdress was painted purple, the works convey nobility.I believed that Johannes Vermeer painted the girl to convey purity.
Europeans in those day very rarely wore headdresses. As the Ottoman Empire carried the most infulence in the middle of 17th century,Europe were infulenced the foriegn cultureand then,the extoic headdress was brought to Europe. Vermeer could generously purchase ultramarine,lapis-lazuri's materiarls, with help from his wealthy mother-in-law,Maria Teinth.The pearl earring was draws your attention.Vermeer painted the earring in three- dimensions. He firstly drew a circle in thick black, then painted light black on the top, then in a lighter black on the top. Finally, he used a light white over the lighter black. It shows how distinctive Vermeer's use of the light was.

I think Vermeer painted"Girl With A Pearl Earring" to be like Guido Renio's"Beatrice Cenci ".Beatrice Cenci murdered her father because he was violent in the home,and she couldn't tolerate it anymore.The plan to murder her farther was put into action by her, her lover and her family.Beatrice and her family except for her younger brother were decapitated after a trial, and her lover was tortured to death.I believe Vermeer painted"Girl With A Pearl Earring" as he imagined the Renio painting depicted the moment before Beatrice was decapitated.

"真珠の耳飾りの少女" は少女が誰なのか、なぜ、フェルメールが少女を描いたのかわからないと言われています。マウリッツハイスの学芸員はテレビを通じて真珠の耳飾りの少女は実際には存在しないと述べていました。とういのは、空想を意味する、トローニーであるからです。オランダの黄金時代、肖像画の中の独立したジャンルで人物画と全く離れた絵画の手法をトローニーと言われていました。トローニーはオランダ語で頭部の習作、特定できない誰かの胸から頭までを描いた作品を意味します。個人が持っている表情や性格を見事に描いて表すための習作です。
少女は目を大きく開いているが、どこかはかなげで空ろな表情をしています。彼女の口は少し開いています。私はこの２つの習作が少女のあどけなさを表していると思います。２つの習作以外にも少女のあどけなさを表していることがあります。少女の巻いているエキゾチックな布の色です。青は純粋を表現する色と言われています。青以外の色では、視覚の点で、少女のもつあどけなさを表現することをできないのです。少女の頭に巻いている布が赤だったら、彼女のもつ情熱さを表現したかったのだろう。もし、紫だったら、彼女のもつ高貴さを表現したかったのだろう。私は、ヨハネス・フェルメールはあどけなさを持った少女を描いていたと思っています。
当時のヨーロッパではあまり、頭に布をまいたファッションをしませんでした。17世紀半ば頃、オスマン帝国が圧倒するくらいの舵を取っていたので、ヨーロッパは異国文化に影響されて、エキゾチックなターバンがヨーロッパにもたらされたのです。ヨハネス・フェルメールは義理の母、マーリア・ティンスがフェルメールを援助するのに十分な、裕福な家柄であったため、フェルメールはラピス・ラズリの原料であるウルトラマリンを惜しみもなく、購入することができたのです。少女が身に付けているエキゾチックなターバンは異国文化の趣味として示しています。真珠の耳飾りは作品のタイトルのとおり、あなたの注目が置かれます。フェルメールは真珠の耳飾りが立体的に描かれる方法を使いました。フェルメールはまず、土台に濃黒の円を描き、その上に灰色の円を描き、さらにその上により透明に近い灰色の円を載せました。そして、最後に明るい白を少し載せて立体的にできました。独特なことはフェルメールのたぐいまれな光の使い方です。
